GMTK Game Jam 2024 - DevLog #5

Well... I give up. 

The final time I could dedicate to the game was tonight, barring an hour tomorrow evening just before the end.

So far, I have a very bare implementation of just my core mechanics. Everything is more complicated than expected.

And the polish... I have been using poor quality assets as placeholders, and I was hoping to replace them by reasonable quality ones.

But just finding assets takes up so much time. I kinda know what I want, but finding it (for free...) would take me all night at least.


So, regretfully, I'm gonna finish up adding half-decent assets that I can find online as fast as possible, and call it for now.


I would really like to eventually make it, not a full-fledged game, but at least something that evokes the vision I first had.

But that would evidently require a lot of time, and possibly some help, so these words may have little weight.


I'm not bitter though. 

I learned a lot of things during this jam, most notably on my own lack of flexibility :)

I've acquired better knowledge, and code snippets I could reuse some other time.


I think I could practice my "jam skills" by trying very short term, maybe one hour, coding projects. 

Not to make a game, but just a sample thing that could make up a game.

A piece of polish (which is clearly one of my weak points), like an animation or sparkle effect.

Or a small mechanic, like walking along walls or whatever.

 

Anyway, that's enough for now, let's finish what I can finish.


Final update tomorrow.

I'm excited to put that to the side and go check out what others have submitted !
